A three-playhead performance sequencer for keys, drums, and CV — operated with four encoders, a joystick, touch, and three colored playhead buttons.
ADEPT is operated with four encoders, a joystick, the touch screen, and four colored buttons. Encoder names follow the front-panel markings — the System page labels the four grey encoders A, B, C, and D.
| Control | Main use |
|---|---|
| EncA | Track selection only. Use EncA to choose the active track. |
| EncB | Sidebar navigation. Move through right-side rows, cards, setup rows, or sidebar items. |
| EncC | Piano-roll cursor — note / row movement. |
| EncD | Piano-roll cursor — step movement. |
| Joystick ←/→ | Move between pages or tab areas when the current overlay allows it. |
| Joystick ↑/↓ | Move through rows, cards, tracks, scenes, or sidebar items. |
| Touch screen | Directly select notes, cards, tabs, grid cells, slots, scenes, and modal buttons. |
| WHITE | General confirm / back / close / new / save, depending on the current screen. |
| ORANGE | Playhead 1 performance button. |
| YELLOW | Playhead 2 performance button. |
| BLUE | Playhead 3 performance button. |
The three colored buttons match the playhead colors shown on screen. Short-press a playhead button to start or stop that playhead. Long-press to open that playhead's style and record menu. Hold White with a playhead button to enter recording for that playhead.
ADEPT uses consistent screen markings to make navigation easier.
| Marking | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Bright / thick border | Current selection. |
| Yellow title or highlighted value | The item is being edited. |
| Down-arrow icon | Use EncB to change the edit parameter for that block, or to exit back to the main menu. |
| White "page" icon | EncB opens a submenu for that block. |
| White square icon | The WHITE button opens a new page for that block. |
| Blue-accented value | Editable value field. |
| ON / OFF text | Current enabled state. OFF means the feature is disabled. |
| -- | No assignment, no value, or not available for the selected output. |
Keep this card handy. The four encoders hold consistent roles across most pages; the colored buttons always map to their playheads.
Move between pages with the joystick left/right when the current page or overlay is not capturing navigation. In the Clip Editor, the right-side context tabs give direct access to the main workflow areas.
| Page | Purpose |
|---|---|
| TRACK | Track setup: clip assignment, output, channel, gate, velocity, probability, mute, and playhead routing. |
| PIANO ROLL | The main Clip Editor — note editing, playheads, Generator, MODS, Track tab, Layer Stack, and XPLAY. |
| PROJECTS | Save and load complete projects. |
| SYSTEM | CV, DIN sync, display, and flash-format settings. |
The Clip Editor's right-side context area exposes these tabs:
| Tab | Purpose |
|---|---|
| TRACK | Per-playhead track controls, Track LFO, and Cross Mod. |
| GENERATOR | Pattern generation controls. |
| MODS | Modifier slot editing. |
| ARRANGE | Track Stack overlay inside the Clip Editor. |
| XPLAY | Crossfade, Live Play, Song, Transition, and Live Mix. |
| PROJECTS | Project load and save. |
| SYSTEM | System settings. |
The Piano Roll is the main editing page. It combines note entry, track focus, playhead performance, Generator, MODS, and XPLAY.
| Area | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Top transport bar | Page/tab title, BPM, playhead focus, track/status badge, and status text. |
| Piano roll grid | Notes, steps, the current cursor, playhead movement, and note lengths. |
| Right context tabs | TRACK, GENERATOR, MODS, ARRANGE, XPLAY, PROJECTS, SYSTEM. |
| Playhead strip | Three indicators for Orange, Yellow, and Blue. |
Edit notes directly on the grid with touch.
Every step carries a condition alongside its probability. A condition is evaluated first, per playhead and per loop pass: if it resolves false the step does not fire, its PROB is not rolled, and any step-placed MODS on that step do not fire (GLOBAL MODS are unaffected). If it resolves true, the normal PROB roll follows.
On the TRACK tab, COND has its own edit block directly under LENGTH, marked with the blue arrow indicator. Move to it with EncB and click EncB to open SET COND; while open, turning EncB steps through the conditions for the cursor step and EncD moves the step cursor. Click EncB again to exit. The step lane at the bottom shows the per-step condition values and can also be set by touch. The default --- (ALWAYS) shows no marking; any other condition shows a small corner badge on the grid step.
| Value | Fires |
|---|---|
| --- | Always (default). |
| 1:2 … 8:8 | On the Xth of every Y loops of that playhead. 1:2 fires loops 1, 3, 5…; 2:2 fires loops 2, 4, 6… Sets: 1:2–2:2, 1:3–3:3, 1:4–4:4, 1:8–8:8. |
| 1ST | Only the first loop after the playhead (re)starts. |
| !1ST | Every loop except the first. |
| FILL | Only while FILL is active. |
| !FIL | Except while FILL is active. |
| PRE | Only if the previous conditional step on this playhead fired this pass. |
| !PRE | Only if that previous conditional step did not fire. |
| NEI | Only if the same step index on the neighbour playhead fired on its most recent pass. Order: Yellow reads Orange, Blue reads Yellow, Orange reads Blue. |
| !NEI | Inverse of NEI. |
When creating or replacing a track, the chooser can make a KEYS, DRUM, or CV clip.
| Clip type | Main behavior |
|---|---|
| KEYS | Normal pitched piano-roll editing. |
| DRUM | Drum-lane editing with named rows, per-drum mutes, focus behavior, and movable row order. |
| CV | Control-voltage editing with playhead lanes, CV drawing/recording, CV generator modes, lane mute/focus, and CV modulation targets. |
Drum clips use named drum rows instead of keyboard note labels. Touch the grid to add or remove hits for the selected drum part. The left drum labels are active controls:
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Tap a drum label | Mute / unmute that drum part for the current layer. Muted labels are red and prefixed with M. |
| Long-press a drum label | Solo that drum part (shown green). Other parts are muted until solo is turned off. |
| Long-press the focused drum again | Restore the previous drum mute state. |
Drum mutes are per track.
CV clips use the Piano Roll area as a control-voltage editor. The visible rows correspond to playhead lanes rather than keyboard notes. Touch the CV grid to draw CV values for the current lane.
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Tap a CV playhead label | Mute / unmute that CV lane for the current layer (shown greyed out). |
| Long-press a CV playhead label | Focus that CV lane and mute the others. |
| Long-press the focused CV lane again | Restore the previous CV mute state. |
Orange, Yellow, and Blue can each have their own step length — so one playhead can loop a short pattern while another runs a longer one.
| Control path | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Select a playhead, then edit STEPS in the sidebar | The selected playhead's step length. |
| Select the TRACK tab, then edit LENGTH | The selected playhead's step length from the track-focused view. |
The range is 1 to 32 steps. The bottom Control Bar follows the selected playhead, so switching playheads can change the visible active step range when lengths differ. Per-playhead lengths are stored with the clip/project state; each running playhead uses its own length for playback, timing, recording, and step-based MOD behavior.
| Encoder | Track Editor role |
|---|---|
| EncA | Track selection only. |
| EncB | Sidebar navigation through context rows, cards, and items. |
| EncC | Piano-roll note/row movement. In Drum move mode, moves the selected drum row. |
| EncD | Piano-roll step movement. |
ADEPT has three independent playheads. Each can run, stop, record, and use its own direction, clock division, step length, and output destination.
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Short-press a color | Toggle that playhead running / stopped. |
| Long-press a color | Open that playhead's style menu. |
| White + a color | Start recording into that playhead. |
| Select PLAYHEAD in a menu | Edit playhead parameters from the screen. |
Step length is playhead-specific and separate from direction, clock division, output, and recording mode. Use different lengths for polymetric behavior — e.g. Orange over 16 steps, Yellow over 12, Blue over 7.
| Field | Values / purpose |
|---|---|
| BACK | Leave the playhead menu. |
| PLAYHEAD | Select Orange, Yellow, or Blue. |
| PLAY MODE | Play behavior for the focused playhead. |
| DIRECTION | FORWARD · REVERSE · PINGPONG |
| CLOCK DIV | x16 x8 x4 x2 1 1/2 1/4 1/8 1/16 |
| CLOCK SRC | INT · P1 · P2 · P3 · TRIG |
| OUTPUT | P1 · P2 · P3 · CV2 · CV1 |
| CHANNEL | MIDI channel where applicable. CV outputs show no channel. |
| REC MODE | OVERDUB · LOOP ERASE · LOOP |
| REC Q | 1/1 1/2 1/4 1/8 1/16 1/32 · NO Q |
| INPUT | AUTO · DIN1–3 · USB1–3 · CV. Input source for recording and pass-thru. |
| PASS THRU | ON/OFF raw MIDI note pass-thru for the selected route. |
| HUMAN | Humanize amount. |
| MASTER | Master / link role for playhead interaction. |
| LOOP Q | Link timing: NEXT BEAT · NEXT BAR · NEXT PAT · PAT x2 / x4 / x8 |
| CASCADE | ON/OFF global. Only one playhead runs at a time — Orange, then Yellow, then Blue. Chains three 32-step playheads into a 96-step performance. |
| SEQUENTIAL | ON/OFF global. Starting one playhead stops the running one, so only one takes over at a time. |
| S/S FILTER | NONE · IN · OUT · IN+OUT. Filters MIDI Start/Stop per playhead. |
| CLEAR | Clear notes for the selected playhead context. |
Recording is playhead-specific. Hold White plus the desired colored button to start. Set REC MODE, REC Q, INPUT, CHANNEL, and OUTPUT first if you need specific behavior.
| Setting | Meaning |
|---|---|
| OVERDUB | Add incoming notes into the current loop. |
| LOOP ERASE | Erase through the loop while recording. Lets endless tracks use the MOD system with live instruments. |
| LOOP | Record into the loop — notes record for one pass, then loop. |
| REC Q | Quantize recorded notes to 1/1 … 1/32 or NO Q. |
| HUMAN | Small playback timing variation. OFF disables it. |
| AUTO | Automatic input selection. |
| DIN1–3 | Record from the selected physical DIN input. |
| USB1–3 | Record from the selected USB MIDI input. |
| CV | Record from the CV/gate input path. |
INPUT and CHANNEL are evaluated per playhead, so one incoming MIDI stream can feed several playheads. For example, set Orange, Yellow, and Blue to DIN1 and channels 1, 2, 3 to record three external sequencer channels separately.
If CHANNEL is OMNI or unset, the playhead accepts all channels matching its INPUT. If CHANNEL is 1–16, only that channel records. CV input does not use channel filtering.
Pass-thru is a per-playhead raw MIDI note monitor. When ON, incoming note on/off messages matching the playhead's INPUT and CHANNEL are sent immediately to its OUTPUT — even when the playhead is not recording.
| Setting | Behavior |
|---|---|
| INPUT AUTO | For DIN input: Orange follows DIN1, Yellow DIN2, Blue DIN3. |
| INPUT DIN1–3 | Listen to the selected DIN input. Multiple playheads can share one input if channel filters differ. |
| INPUT USB1–3 | Listen to the selected USB MIDI input. |
| CHANNEL OMNI | Pass any incoming channel from the input. |
| CHANNEL 1–16 | Pass only that channel. |
| OUTPUT P1–P3 | Send the raw stream to the matching DIN MIDI output. |
| OUTPUT CV1 / CV2 | Convert the matching note stream to the selected CV/gate output. |
While recording, incoming notes that land on a step with an active MOD trigger that MOD immediately. If a MOD is set GLOBAL, recorded input can trigger it without a plotted step marker, subject to the MOD's play/rest loop settings.
This makes LOOP ERASE and normal recording behave like a playable thru workflow: incoming notes are written to the Piano Roll, their note-off sets the recorded length/gate, and matching MODS fire from the recorded step path.
The TRACK tab focuses the selected playhead and shows six rows:
| Row | Purpose |
|---|---|
| PLAYHEAD | Select or review the focused playhead. |
| GATE / VELOCITY / PROB | Dynamics row. Press EncB, then turn to edit each field. |
| LENGTH | Selected playhead step length. |
| COND | Per-step trig condition (under LENGTH). Click EncB to open SET COND, turn EncB to choose the condition, click again to exit. |
| CC / CC VALUE / CC SMOOTH / PROG CHG | CC row. The visible field changes as you step through details. |
| LFO MOD | Track-level LFO modulation. |
| CROSS MOD | Cross-track modulation. |
Use EncB or joystick ↑/↓ to move between rows; EncA selects tracks; EncC/EncD stay available for Piano Roll cursor movement. LENGTH is per playhead — select a color first, then edit LENGTH. On CV clips the TRACK tab is compact: PLAYHEAD, LENGTH, LFO MOD, and CROSS MOD.
Track LFO is a per-playhead modulation source in the TRACK tab. It is separate from the MODS LFO modifier.
| Field | Values |
|---|---|
| SHAPE | SQUARE · SINE · TRI · S/H |
| DEPTH | Amount of modulation. 0 disables movement. |
| SPEED | 4X · 2X · 1X · 1/2 · 1/4 · 1/8 · 1/16 |
| TARGET | VEL · PROB · CC VALUE · GATE |
When TARGET is GATE, piano-roll note lengths update visually to show the modulation effect. On CV clips the fourth field is INVERT (OFF/ON) — CV wavefolding is handled by the global CV MODS path rather than the Track LFO target.
Cross Mod lets one track's movement influence another track's parameter for the selected playhead. It is edited from the TRACK tab and runs as part of playback.
| Field | Values / purpose |
|---|---|
| SOURCE | CC · VEL · PROB · GATE · CV. Read from the current track. |
| TARGET | CC · VEL · PROB · GATE · CV. Affected on the target track. |
| TRACK | Target track number. |
| MODE | MIRROR or INVERT. |
| AMOUNT | Modulation strength. 0 displays OFF. |
MIRROR adds source movement into the target; INVERT subtracts or flips it. The display format is SOURCE>T2 TARGET, where T2 is the target track. When the source layer is a CV track, CV is the source and the SOURCE field may be skipped.
The Generator creates or updates patterns from the current generator settings. Use EncA to choose the target track — track selection stays consistent with the rest of the Clip Editor.
| Access path | Result |
|---|---|
| GENERATOR tab | Open full Generator controls. |
| GENERATE sidebar item | Trigger generation from the current context. |
| Row | Purpose |
|---|---|
| GENERATE | Create / update notes using current settings. |
| ROLE | Musical role used by generation. |
| DENSITY | How busy the pattern is. |
| VARIANT | One of 100 melodic variants — normal, bridge-style, and mix-style phrasing. |
| NEXT VARI | What the active variation slot jumps to next: 0, a fixed variant, or RANDOM. |
| VARI LOOP | How many loops a variation slot plays. Vn SKIP skips that slot. |
| SCALE | Scale context. |
| HIGH NOTE | High pitch limit. |
| LOW NOTE | Low pitch limit. |
| PLAY LOOPS | Loops to play before rest behavior. |
| REST LOOPS | Loops to rest. |
Keys clips use the same V1–V8 variation slots as Drum clips. Giving any slot a nonzero VARI LOOP turns the variation system on for that track — the GENERATE toggle need not be enabled. At each loop boundary the active slot counts down its VARI LOOP, then hands off to the next playable slot and regenerates the melody at that slot's variant. RANDOM picks favour normal variants, with bridge and mix variants appearing occasionally. Muting a track pauses its own variation advance until unmuted.
| Row | Purpose |
|---|---|
| GENERATE | Create / update the drum pattern. |
| STYLE | POP · ELECTRO · DNB · TECHNO · HIP HOP · IDM · HOUSE · EUCLID · BREAKBEAT |
| DENSITY | How busy the drum pattern is. |
| VARIANT | One of 100 drum variants — normal, breakdown, fill, and mix ranges. |
| NEXT VARI | What the active slot jumps to next: 0, a fixed variant, or RANDOM. |
| VARI LOOP | How many loops a variation slot plays. Vn SKIP skips that slot. |
Drum variation slots are shown as V1–V8. When a variation loop is active, the transport title can show the active suffix (e.g. V3) instead of only the playhead suffix.
| Row | Purpose |
|---|---|
| GENERATE | Write / update the CV shape. If playback can't write safely, the screen reports STOP TO GEN. |
| MODE | RAMP UP · RAMP DOWN · TRIANGLE · SINE · RANDOM WALK · EXP RISE · EXP FALL · STAIRCASE · CV BURST · Step Rndm · ENVELOPE · S&H |
| ENV | Envelope detail (shown when MODE is ENVELOPE). |
| AMPLITUDE | Output depth of the shape. |
| OFFSET | Center level of the shape. |
| SMOOTH | Smooths step-to-step changes. |
| CURVE | Bends the shape positive or negative. |
| CYCLE | Shape cycle length in steps. |
| PHASE | Step offset for the shape. |
| VARIANT | Mode-specific variation amount. |
MODS are per-playhead modifier slots that transform playback. The current setup has three slots, matching the Orange, Yellow, and Blue playheads. MODS are placed in the bottom Control Bar by touch or EncC navigation.
| Concept | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Slot | One visible modifier slot, tied to the playhead workflow. |

| PLACE | Step placement or scope. |
| GLOBAL | Whether the modifier acts globally, where supported. |
| PLAY LOOPS | Loops the modifier plays before rest behavior. |
| REST LOOPS | Loops the modifier rests. |
| DELETE EV | Delete event / modifier event data from the current context. |
The on-screen MENU field groups MODS into six families. These memberships match the firmware.

Some MODS carry their own LFO. The LFO modifier is part of the MODS system and is separate from Track LFO.
| Field | Values / purpose |
|---|---|
| SHAPE | SINE TRI SAW+ SAW- SQR RAND EXP+ EXP- PDEC STAIR S&H |
| RATE | LFO speed or clock rate. |
| DEPTH | Amount of modulation. |
| MODE | CYCLE or SHOT. |

CYCLE repeats continuously; SHOT is a one-shot movement when triggered. Use Track LFO for quick per-playhead modulation of VEL, PROB, CC VALUE, or GATE. Use MOD LFO when you want the LFO to behave like a modifier slot — with placement, target, play/rest loop, and event behavior.
The CHORD modifier turns a note into a chord during playback or record-through-MODS behavior. It can also be a MOD LFO target, so chord type can move as part of an LFO setup.
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| AMOUNT | Chord type: MAJ MIN DIM AUG SUS2 SUS4 7 MIN7 MAJ7 9 ADD9 QUART. |
| STRUM | ON offsets chord voices across the step instead of firing all at once. |
| NOTES | Number of voices, 3 to 7. |
| SPREAD | Strum spread, shown as a fraction of the step such as 2/16. |
| PROG | Progression probability. OFF keeps the chord type fixed; higher values let the engine choose related progression functions over time. |
Chord output is scale-aware on Keys tracks, can feed the arpeggiator when ARPEGGIO is also active, and uses the selected playhead assignment, placement, GLOBAL, PLAY LOOPS, and REST LOOPS like other MODS.
The ARRANGE tab opens the Track Stack overlay for layered clip performance and track focus. Track boxes align with the Song workflow, so parts can be viewed, focused, started, stopped, and muted in real time. The Control Bar shows the Track Stack visual EQ display.
XPLAY contains the performance surfaces for Crossfade, Live Play, Song, Transition, and Live Mix.

| CENTER 0 | Center is zero. Tracks and MODS are muted at center; moving toward a quadrant fades it in. Corners act like solo points. |
| CENTER MIX | Center is the full mix. Moving away crossfades between solo quadrants; corners strongly solo. |
| MIDI MIX | Center is a routing source, quadrants are destinations. Route DIN/USB input, DIN output buses, or CV input to DIN or CC destinations. |
Assign tracks or MODS to quadrants, then move the joystick to blend. The closer the dot is to a quadrant, the stronger it becomes; a corner strongly favors that quadrant. Touch a quadrant to select it; the lower area toggles MOD behavior for that slot. When TYPE is MIDI MIX, the setup HUD becomes routing rows — SOURCE is the center source (always active while Crossfade is open) and each quadrant has its own DEST, DEST CH, and DEST CC.
Long-press White (BTN1) while Crossfade is open. The HUD keeps a 2×2 matrix on the left and editable rows on the right.
| BACK | Close the HUD. |
| QUAD | Select Q1–Q4. |
| TYPE | ALL · CENTER 0 · CENTER MIX · MIDI MIX. |
| TRACK | Assign track/layer, or NO TRACK. |
| MOD | Modifier used by the quadrant. |
| MOD ON | Enable/disable the modifier contribution. |
| MOD PH | Playhead that receives the modifier. |
| AMOUNT + | MOD amount and named parameters. |
| BACK | Close the HUD. |
| QUAD | Select Q1–Q4. |
| TYPE | Stay in or leave MIDI MIX. |
| SOURCE | DIN1–3 IN · USB1–3 IN · CV IN · DIN1–3 OUT. |
| DEST | -- · DIN1–3 OUT · CC DIN1–3. |
| DEST CH | THRU or force MIDI channel 1–16. |
| DEST CC | CC number for CC destinations. |
| Goal | Use Crossfade to… |
|---|---|
| Move between arrangements | Assign different tracks/layers to quadrants and blend with the joystick. |
| Fade a part in/out | Put the part in one quadrant and move away to reduce its influence. |
| Morph modulation | Assign MOD behavior and use joystick position to change modifier strength. |
| Perform a breakdown | Move to a sparse quadrant, then return to a fuller one. |
| Create a center drop | Set TYPE to CENTER 0 and move the dot to center. |
| Route MIDI outputs | MIDI MIX with SOURCE a DIN OUT bus, then assign quadrant destinations. |
| Convert CV to CC | MIDI MIX with SOURCE CV IN, a quadrant to CC DIN1–3, and set DEST CC. |
Live Play launches tracks and patterns. It uses the same 12-track performance mask as Song, so opening Live Play can follow the current Song scene when Song playback is active.
A 12-track grid arranged 3 columns × 4 rows. Available tracks show their names; unavailable tracks show --. The top-right mode switch shows:
| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| LIVE | Track changes apply immediately. |
| LOOP | Changes wait for the next loop boundary while transport runs. |
If transport is stopped, LOOP-mode changes can apply immediately because there is no running loop to wait for.
| Goal | Use Live Play to… |
|---|---|
| Launch patterns | Touch track cells to bring tracks in and out. |
| Build a section | Enable multiple tracks before a loop boundary in LOOP mode. |
| Improvise | Use LIVE mode for immediate changes. |
| Keep transitions tight | Use LOOP mode for quantized scene-like changes. |
Transition moves from one live source to another over a timed progress ramp — between project-pool slots in the current bank, or between tracks in the current project.
Shows the current project bank, slot chips, source/target letters, detected key/BPM, total progress, and one progress bar per playhead.
| Control | Use |
|---|---|
| EncA before running | Set transition length, 1–64 bars. |
| EncB before running | Choose the target slot. Empty targets show TARGET EMPTY. |
| EncB press | Start the timed transition. Press again to cancel; from manual mode, continue in timed mode. |
| EncC / EncD | Start or move manual progress. EncC larger steps, EncD finer. |
| EncC press | Reset and revert the current handoff. |
| EncD press | Load the target when stopped, or commit after handoffs complete. |
The source must be the active project and the target a used slot. With internal clock, ADEPT can interpolate BPM from source to target analysis. Where key analysis exists, the view shows the source/target key relationship during the handoff.
Shows a 12-track grid. The live source is marked LIVE, the target TO, and unavailable tracks --.
| Control | Use |
|---|---|
| EncA before running | Move through available tracks. |
| EncA press | Pick the live source first, then the target. |
| EncB before running | Set transition length, 1–64 bars. |
| EncB press | Start or cancel the transition. |
| EncC press | Reset and revert the current handoff. |
| EncD press | Commit the target track as the new live source. |
Track transitions hand off within the current project — they do not load a different project slot.
Live Mix is a performance mixer across 12 sliders. Each slider can target a track, scale note velocity for the selected playhead, or send a CC value. Sliders can record automation takes and be locked against accidental movement.
| Element | Meaning |
|---|---|
| LIVE MIX title | Confirms the active surface. |
| T1–T12 header blocks | Slider targets — the track assigned to each slider. |
| P1/P2/P3 blocks | Per-playhead selection and enable state for the selected slider. |
| Fader column | Current value for the selected slider/playhead, as a percentage. |
Touch a P1/P2/P3 block to select that playhead on the slider. Drag a fader to change its value; moving a fader enables that slider/playhead block. Press an encoder to toggle the block ON/OFF. With VEL ON, the slider scales note velocity for its target track and selected playhead; with VEL OFF, it sends the configured CC number on the target track's route.
| Control | Use |
|---|---|
| EncB | Select the slider. |
| EncA | Select the playhead block for the slider. |
| EncC / EncD | Change the selected slider value. |
| Encoder press | Toggle the slider/playhead block ON/OFF. |
| Transport REC badge | Toggle Live Mix automation recording. |
| White long press | Open or close Live Mix setup. |
| White short press | Close setup first, then close Live Mix. |
Long-press White to enter MIX SETUP.
| Row | Use |
|---|---|
| SLIDER | Select S1–S12 for setup. |
| ASSIGN | Target track for the selected slider. |
| VEL | ON scales note velocity; OFF makes the slider a CC control. |
| CC | CC number sent when VEL is OFF. |
| ENC RATIO | EncC/EncD step size: 0/default, 2x, or 4x. |
| REC SLIDER | Arm or disarm a slider for automation recording. |
| REC LOOPS | Automation take length in loops. |
| LOCK | Lock/unlock a slider against accidental changes. |
| CLEAR | Clear recorded automation for one track, or ALL sliders. |
Use joystick ↑/↓ to move rows; turn EncB to edit, and click EncB or touch a row to activate. REC SLIDER and LOCK toggle when activated; CLEAR runs immediately. The transport badge shows REC OFF/REC ON — tap it to start/stop a take using the REC LOOPS length. During a take, long-press White reports REC ACTIVE instead of opening setup. Slider moves can also be written when the selected playhead is already cycle-recording, and play back per slider, playhead, and step.
Song is the XPLAY scene editor for scene-based song playback, shown as the SONG card inside XPLAY.
| Element | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Scene columns | Up to 12 song scenes. |
| Track rows | Up to 12 tracks. |
| Enabled dots | A track is active in that scene. |
| Repeat value | How many times the scene repeats before advancing (1–64, top of each column). |
| SONG ON/OFF | Global song playback enable state. |
EncB edits the selected repeat value, EncC moves through track rows, EncD moves through scene columns, and EncA toggles SONG ON/OFF.
Song applies each scene's track mask during playback — intended for building structured sections such as intro, verse, break, and outro from the same track pool.
The PROJECTS page (titled PROJECT POOL) saves and loads complete projects. Slots show either an empty state or project details such as track and event counts.
| STATE | Shows slot state. |
| SAVE | Save into the selected slot. |
| LOAD | Load the selected project. |
| NEW | Start a blank project. |
| OVERWRITE SLOT? | Save over an existing slot. |
| CLEAR SLOT? | Clear a project slot. |
| LOAD PROJECT? | Load into the current state. |
| NEW PROJECT? | Reset to a blank project. |
Use NO/YES to cancel or confirm. Joystick ↑/↓ or touch selects a slot or dialog option. White loads, creates a blank project, saves the selected slot, or enters overwrite confirmation where appropriate.
The SYSTEM page holds hardware and device settings, plus a visual socket map and diagnostics.
| Setting | Values / purpose |
|---|---|
| CV1 / CV2 Pitch curve | V/OCT · HZ/V · 1.2V/OCT |
| CV1 / CV2 Trig mode | V-TRIG · S-TRIG · VOLCA 2PPQ |
| DIN1–3 DIN mode | MIDI or DIN SYNC. |
| DIN1–3 Sync format | ROLAND 12 · ROLAND 24 · KORG 24 · KORG 48 |
| BACKLIGHT | Display backlight percentage. |
| FLASH Format flash | ERASE action. |
| CV Calibrate | Opens the CV calibration wizard (optimized firmware). The row uses a blue > action marker and sits last in the list. |
The CV Calibrate item opens a guided wizard for tracking the two CV outputs and calibrating the CV input. Calibration is stored in flash and survives power cycles and firmware updates. Without calibration, ADEPT uses nominal scaling, exactly as before the feature existed.
| Entry | What it does |
|---|---|
| CV1 TRACK | Tracks CV1 OUT across A0–A7. |
| CV2 TRACK | Tracks CV2 OUT across A0–A7. |
| CV IN LOOPBACK | Automatic input calibration using a patch cable. |
| CV IN MANUAL | Input calibration from an external 1V/OCT source. |
| RESET ALL | Clears all calibration and returns to nominal scaling. |
| Control | Use |
|---|---|
| EncA turn | Move the wizard menu selection, or coarse-trim a CV output point. |
| EncB turn | Fine-trim a CV output point. EncC and EncD also act as fine trim while the wizard is open. |
| EncA push | Select the highlighted entry when the menu shows ENCA GO. |
| EncB push | Capture a CV output point, start loopback, capture manual input, or return from DONE / ERROR screens. |
| White (BTN1) | Back out one step, or exit from the menu. |
| Joystick ↑/↓ | Move the menu selection. |
To open the wizard, go to SYSTEM, select CV Calibrate, and use the row's blue > action. Once open, use the controls shown at the bottom of the wizard card.
| Mode | Procedure |
|---|---|
| CV IN LOOPBACK | Patch CV1 OUT to CV IN and press EncB to start. ADEPT outputs the low and high reference voltages, waits for settling, averages 32 readings per point, and stores the input calibration. The loopback path uses CV1's voltage reference if present, otherwise falls back to nominal CV1 output. |
| CV IN MANUAL | Feed a steady calibrated 1V/OCT source into CV IN. Capture the low point at 0.750 V, then feed and capture the high point at 6.750 V. The screen shows the live ADC raw value while you set each source voltage. |
The ADEPT web editor can edit project metadata, track names, system settings, and playhead settings over ADEPT SysEx. The playhead editor mirrors the current device fields:
| Field group | Available controls |
|---|---|
| Global | SELECTED · CASCADE · SEQUENTIAL |
| Per playhead | PLAY MODE · DIRECTION · CLOCK DIV · CLOCK SRC · OUTPUT · CHANNEL · REC MODE · REC Q · INPUT · PASS THRU · HUMAN · MASTER · LOOP Q · S/S FILTER |
The web editor accepts OMNI for CHANNEL, USB1–3 for INPUT, PASS THRU ON/OFF, and the same global CASCADE and SEQUENTIAL behavior as the hardware menu.
| Symptom | Check |
|---|---|
| A button doesn't do the expected global action | A popup, HUD, MOD detail, or XPLAY surface may be active. Press White to close the topmost layer first. |
| A value won't change | Make sure the field is selected and in edit mode. Look for the highlighted title/value. |
| A track makes no sound | Check MUTE, OUT, CHAN, playhead running state, Live Play masks, Song scene masks, and Crossfade weight. |
| PASS THRU is ON but no notes heard | Check INPUT, CHANNEL, OUTPUT, DIN MIDI/DIN SYNC mode, and the incoming cable/channel. Pass-thru only passes matching note on/off. |
| Recording doesn't capture an external channel | Check the playhead is recording, INPUT matches the source, and CHANNEL is OMNI or the incoming channel. |
| Multiple playheads record the same input | Give each playhead a different CHANNEL, or set only the one you want to the shared INPUT. |
| Incoming recorded notes don't trigger MODS | Check MOD PH assignment, GLOBAL state, PLACE/step position, and PLAY/REST LOOPS. Raw pass-thru does not trigger MODS. |
| A Track LFO has no effect | Check DEPTH is above 0 and TARGET is correct. On CV clips, check INVERT. |
| Cross Mod has no effect | Check AMOUNT above 0, the source track/playhead running, and the target correct. Reverse source/target loops are ignored. |
| CV Generator won't write while running | Stop playback when the screen reports STOP TO GEN, then press GENERATE again. |
| Song changes aren't heard | Check SONG is ON and the current scene has tracks enabled. |
| Live Play changes occur later than expected | LIVE applies immediately; LOOP waits for the next loop boundary during playback. |
| Transition says TARGET EMPTY | In PROJECTS mode, choose a used target slot in the current bank. |
| Transition says SELECT TRACKS | In TRACKS mode, choose both a live source and a different target. |
| Transition says STOP TO LOAD | Stop transport before loading a target project directly. |
| Live Mix slider has no effect | Check the P1/P2/P3 block is enabled, ASSIGN points to the intended track, and VEL is ON (velocity) or OFF with the desired CC. |
| Live Mix setup won't open | Stop the active automation take first — setup reports REC ACTIVE while the badge is REC ON. |
| Drum variation doesn't advance | Check VARI LOOP is not Vn SKIP and NEXT VARI points to a valid variant or RANDOM. |
| CV output has no MIDI channel | CV outputs display -- — the channel field applies to MIDI outputs only. |
Per-MOD edit fields, value sets, and exact ranges for the modifier sub-menu inside the Clip Editor. Use this alongside Section 08, which describes what each MOD does; this appendix lists what each field accepts.
Each MOD is written in the same order: its main field (the first MOD-specific row after TYPE, which is renamed per MOD) and any detail fields that appear only for that MOD. Where a field says "value set", the values are listed once in the Value Sets table below.
These rows are shared by most non-CV MODS.
| Row | Values | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| SLOT | Slot list | Selects the MOD slot being edited. |
| MENU | Family pages | Moves between type selection and the MOD's detail rows. |
| TYPE | MOD type list | Chooses which MOD is loaded in the slot. |
| PLAY LOOPS | 1 Loop … 12 Loops | Loop passes where the MOD can fire. |
| PLAYHEAD / PH | Orange · Yellow · Blue | Assigns the slot to a playhead. |
| PLACE | Step + ON/OFF/FULL | Places or removes the MOD marker on the current step. |
| GLOBAL | ON · OFF | Makes the MOD active for its playhead without a placed marker. |
| REST LOOPS | 0 Loops … 12 Loops | Loop passes to rest after the play window. |
| LIVE | Live target | In Live Setup, replaces PLACE so the MOD can be performed live. |
Placed MOD markers can store their own amount and detail-field values, so a placed marker can differ from the slot's global/default value.
| Clip type | MOD availability |
|---|---|
| KEYS | Melodic, timing, scale, pattern, link, and motion MODS. |
| DRUM | Hides identity-changing melodic MODS — chord, transpose, scale, harmony, mutation, evolve, and slide. |
